Female of the Year 2003: Angelina Jolie

A tribute to the 2003 winner and a summary of the competition

Dear Angelina Jolie,
In respect of the election of FOY 2003 I give you this tribute page. Congratulations!

WINNER FOY 2003: ANGELINA JOLIELittle did I know when I first posted a "Girl/female of the day" of Christina Ricci that I was to create a competition that would attract world-wide attention and end in an election of over half a thousand votes. And perhaps it was this honesty or humility that made it such an entertaining and also inspiring event. It just happened.

What is FOY?
Female of the Year is a tribute to the most high-ranking woman in charm and beauty presently on the face of the earth. In 2003 this was Angelina Jolie.
But it is more. It is also a medium through which one can draw attention towards greater goals, be it in welfare, politics, cosmetics or humanity.

Around you, you can see all of the nominated participants, ranging from a sexual fantasy (Anck' Su Namun) to a French pop-singer (Alizee Jacotey). I think it is pretty obvious that FOY managed to keep an eye out for beauty in all countries of the world, in all classes of society. They were nominated by suggestions from the readers of Sigg3 dot net, or by my immediate affection based on RL events. Since the rules of FOY hadn't been established this varied pretty much in the beginning, but later stabilized and turned into the FOY process we know today.

What qualified Angelina?
She responds to the beauty contest with an individual, and on the same time evolving, identity in reality and in movies ranging from the Chart of votes in percent"underground" cult-movie Hackers to great action characters such as Sway (Gone in Sixty Seconds) and Lara Croft. And as in all beauty contests, we favour good-will, and in this department she stands out as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.

In addition, as what can be seen in the chart displaying the votes, she had the favour of the people. She got as much as 33% of the votes, that's a 166 votes, winning over the American-favoured Katie Holmes and Europe-supported Milla Jovovich. She came close to loosing to both of these, but in the end she proved worthy of the title Sigg3 dot net's Female of the Year 2003.
502 votes were cast before the announcing of the winner.
